The Best NW Skate Parts of 2023

A "best of" list often resides in the realm of shit journalism. It’s low hanging fruit for bloggers, SEO chasers and Chat GPT-ers. So why do one? Well, we are living in a world where everyone’s skate footy whizzes passed our attention on an infinite content conveyor belt, inevitably fading into the depths of obscurity. We don’t tend to scroll back, unfortunately. The constant stream of new edits, stories, reels, and videos vying for our focus can be great at times, providing a drip feed of insane skateboarding, but it’s also kinda overwhelming, even for those like us dedicated to scouring every nook of the Northwest for skate content. TBH as I embarked on the mission to compile this list, I was reminded of entire videos from the past year that I absolutely loved, yet had slipped completely from my memory until friends brought them back to my attention when discussing the best videos this year. So what’s the point? I want to offer a momentary pause, a chance to slow shit down a bit and appreciate all of the hard work over the passed year from the Northwest’s skaters, filmers, editors, shops, brands, spot fixers, knob busters, sweepers, DIYers and all the other homies. I hope this article can be a place where we all can stop in to appreciate the output that our collective Pacific Northwest fam has produced in 2023.

Here’s our list of the best NW skate parts of 2023

In this section we share our favorite NW skate parts that were released in 2023. What does a part mean these days anyway? We’re only looking at NW skaters with stand alone parts that were released independently and not part of a larger project.

Griffin Gass ‘Orca Card’ Spitfire Part

The the first stand alone part we’re showing y’all is Griff’s ‘Orca Card’ edit. This one was done by Alex Cooper (if you’re not familiar, get to know him by reading our interview here). The edit is a well rounded banger of a video with powerful tech skating, fast af lines, creative spots and S tier trick selection filmed mostly around Seattle area.

Silas Baxter Neal for Thunder Trucks

Silas delivered this part for the release of his new Pro Edition Thunder Trucks. It’s really nice to see that after damn near two full decades of pro skating he’s still skating hard and right here on our beloved PNW soil.

Josh McLaughlin Frog Part

I’m no expert but I think this is Josh’s first part since moving down to SF. Seeing him skating and having fun with a new crew and new spots is really dope. Also, who else makes Dunk hi’s look so good?

Johnny Matarazzo for 35th North + Thunder

Johnny came through with a 35th North skate shop part filmed in Los Angeles for Thunder Trucks. Confusing, I know, but it’s good!
